THYME SPA FIELD

NEW BUILD ADDITIONS TO HOTEL
PLANNING PERMISSION GRANTED

Thyme Spa extends the wellbeing offer at Thyme through a carefully composed group of new buildings that draw directly on the site’s agricultural heritage. Rather than a single large intervention, the scheme is conceived as a series of modest, barn-like forms arranged around a sequence of intimate courtyards. This approach reflects the established grain of the estate, where buildings are read as collections of working structures gathered around shared yards, and allows the new spa and bedroom accommodation to sit comfortably within the wider farmstead setting.

The architecture balances strong vernacular references with contemporary detailing. Stone walls and simple roof forms are paired with refined glazing, green roofs and carefully controlled openings to create calm, light-filled spaces for rest and wellbeing. Low-lying spa buildings are organised around sheltered garden courtyards, blurring the boundary between inside and out, while taller elements along the southern edge adopt a more overtly agricultural character, completing the historic building line without competing with the estate’s historically significant structures.
